What are you able to do for me?

We offer many services in a wide range of legal subjects. Our solicitors are specialists in their field. We can arrange to work with barristers and expert witnesses when necessary and use our specialist knowledge to ensure the right people are appointed for the job. If you contact us with an enquiry we will quickly assess which of our specialist teams can help you and arrange for one of them to contact you. We are experienced in asking key questions to quickly get to the heart of your problem. We will define what we can do to help you and set out the options and cost implications clearly.

After considering our advice, you instruct us how you wish to proceed and we will keep you updated regularly as the matter progresses. Our vast experience allows us to point out the most practical and cost effective solutions for you.

How can I be sure that your firm is qualified to help me?

All our solicitors hold a practising certificate issued by The Solicitors Regulatory Authority. This guarantees that the solicitor is qualified to practise and has insurance to protect you if anything goes wrong. We have members of The Solicitors Regulatory Authority Quality Assured Panels covering Children Law, Family Law, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence. To be asked to join these panels, solicitors must show that they have considerable specialist knowledge.

Wolferstans holds the Legal Services Commissions’ Quality Marks in Clinical Negligence, Family and Personal Injury work. This ensures that our work in these areas is independently assessed to high quality standards.

Wolferstans expects to receive the Law Society’s “Lexcel” quality practice standards award soon. This is only awarded to solicitors who meet the highest management and customer care standards and we are well on our way to achieving the standard having already undergone rigorous independent assessment.

How much will it cost?

We always give our clients costs information at the earliest opportunity. We believe that there should be no surprises and that you should have regular updates on your costs so that you always know where you stand. Our solicitors will explain how their charges are calculated and provide you with this information in writing. You can ask for information about your costs at any time.

Do you do legal aid work?

Yes, we hold the Legal Services Commission Quality Marks in Family, Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury work. We can also undertake Contentious Probate work under the legal aid scheme (no LSC quality mark is available for this area of work. If there was, we would apply for it!).

Do you work on a conditional fee basis?

For personal injury cases we may be able to work on a conditional fee basis. This is more commonly known as a “no win, no fee” arrangement. If you win the case, your fees will mostly be paid by the other side. If you lose, you do not have to pay your solicitor’s fees. You may be asked to take out an insurance policy to pay for the other side’s costs if you lose, and we may be able to help you to make those arrangements.

Will you be sympathetic?

We are used to dealing with personal matters and will want to ensure that you feel comfortable. We will be sympathetic and understanding if you are distressed and may be able to arrange other services, such as counselling or mediation, which can help at a difficult time.

I do not live near Plymouth, can you still help?

We have clients all over the country and abroad and may be able to advise you wherever you live, subject to our client identification procedures. If we feel that it would be better for you to see a local solicitor, we will say so. We may be able to offer you home visits if you have difficulty travelling.
